Now In Development As A Feature Film

Posted under Updates on February 14, 2021 at 03h44

In 2008, the idea came to me.
In 2013, publishers passed on my pitch.
In 2015, the Kickstarter was successful with 187 backers.
In 2019, Scout Comics picked us up.
In 2021, it was revealed that The Forever Maps is being developed as a feature film by some Hollywood heavyweights.

I couldn’t be more proud of everything we’ve accomplished, or more grateful to everyone that’s supported us.

Thank you EVERYONE… it’s been quite a ride!

Kickstarter update #19: Surveillance notice

Posted under Updates on September 6, 2016 at 04h20

Hello everyone!

We hope that you’ve enjoyed a wonderful summer, and as the season for hibernation begins, I’m pleased to announce that we’re very nearly finished! Yay!

Todor’s down to his last dozen (or so) pages, and as the weather begins to cool, his work remains hot. Sure, he’s pouring more energy into his art than he has left in his body, but it’s worth it, right?

Kickstarter update #18: Pencil, ink, and varnish

Posted under Updates on July 13, 2016 at 04h20

Hello again!

In the past few months, I’ve been in contact with many of you, and the level of support we’ve been hearing is unbelievable. Todor and I can’t properly communicate our gratitude using a keyboard, so we’re putting it into the comic. When you read it, you’re going to see blood, sweat, and tears on every page… well, not so much blood, but the sweat and tears are definitely being used as a varnish.

Kickstarter update #17: Assistant position has been filled!

Posted under Updates on April 3, 2016 at 04h20

Hello all!

As always, we are grateful for everyone’s patience as we continue to get this graphic novel closer to your hands. It’s hard to believe that it’s been just over a year since we started the campaign, and it’s even harder to believe how many changes there have been since then. For example, when I clicked that ‘launch’ button last year, I had no idea that before this project wrapped up, I would have changed approximately seven billion diapers. (Actual numbers may vary depending on how much sleep I’ve had.)

Some of you that backed this project are already aware that an assistant position has been filled here at The Forever Maps headquarters. It’s an unpaid position, which is good because the little fella that took it doesn’t actually do that much aside from sleeping and eating. He’s cranky and stubborn and it’s been pretty amazing having him around these past four weeks. Please extend a warm welcome to my new assistant, Oliver Michael Lagacé.

Kickstarter update #16: Comparisons

Posted under Updates on February 16, 2016 at 04h20

Hello again, everyone!

Yesterday, Todor sent me a big ol’ batch of final artwork for the first chapter and I’m way too excited to keep it to myself. What you’ve been seeing up to this point is Todor’s inked artwork on textured backgrounds, and what he’s done since then is add colour and tone. It may not sound like much but the difference it makes is astounding. I’ve taken a few select panels and one entire page and created side-by-side comparisons so you can judge for yourself.

As always, we appreciate your continued patience, and we’ll be updating you with more artwork before you can count to blue!

Have a great weekend!

– Michael

Success!

Posted under Updates on April 27, 2015 at 04h20

Thanks to 187 amazing backers, we managed to raise over $12,000 to bring The Forever Maps to life! I’m still in awe at how this campaign came together, and how generous you all have been to make it happen. It’s nothing either of us have ever experienced and it’s been entirely inspiring. All we can do now is put everything we’ve got into making The Forever Maps the best it can be.

Case in point. This story was originally written as a 3-issue mini-series, and there were parts I had to condense to fit each issue into 24 pages. Now that we’ve switched to a graphic novel format, we have more flexibility with structure and pacing. When we launched the campaign as a 72-page graphic novel, I’d always intended that to be a minimum… which we’ve now exceeded. I’m happy to reveal that The Forever Maps will be printed as the full 84-page version it was always intended to be.

These additional 12 pages will allow us to elaborate on some key concepts and scenes, but mostly it will give Todor room to really flex his muscles. And trust me, that’s something we can all get excited about! He will be finishing up another project in the next couple weeks, then he’s going to take a few days to meditate, roller-skate, and rejuvenate before diving back into this story. And he’s going to be diving deep.

In the meantime, I will be creating production schedules and finalizing details for the printed book. We’ve got some really cool things that we’re itching to tell you about, but we don’t want to put the cart before the horse, because that’s not how carts work. For now, all we can reveal is that this project is going to be something special. Expect everything that we’ve told you about already, plus a little bit more.
